May 30, 2016: Anirban Lahiri gifted himself and wife Ipsa Jamwal Lahiri a nice little present for their anniversary on Sunday. The Indian played well in the fourth round to record his best finish this season on the PGA TOUR. Lahiri finished T6 in the Dean & Deluca Invitational missing narrowly on a higher finish due to a couple of poor holes on the back nine. Jordan Spieth erased the scars from his Masters meltdown with a spectacular back nine to clinch a three shot victory at the Colonial Country Club.

Spieth produced a second straight 65 including a masterful 30 on the back nine to score his first significant victory in Texas. The Texan fired six birdies on the back nine – three in a row each time to finish the tournament on a big high.

Lahiri was on a searing run himself, 5-under through eleven holes, looking set for a glorious finish inside the top 5. He had kept his sheet clean to that point – firing birdies at 2, 5, 7, 10 and 11.

Unfortunately for the Indian, he found the green side bunker on the par-4 12th hole with his second shot. He got up and down in three from there to sign on his first bogey of the round.

He dropped two more shots at the 15th hole. Anirban sank his approach shot in the water and took a drop in the left rough. But he did well to put that double bogey behind him, making par at the final three holes of the tournament.

Anirban has been battling for consistency and this week should have served to assuage some of his worries, if not all of them. Lahiri 65-70-68-68 in his best tournament thus far, since winning a full card late in 2015.

“It was a good week overall. I’m glad that it was a consistent week, with my worst round being even par,” Anirban told the Golfing Indian. “A bit disappointed with the way I finished my 3rd and 4th rounds with dropped shots late in the back nine on both occasions.”

“Definitely a course that suited my style. Very DGC-esque. The game has felt like it was turning a corner,” explained Anirban. “Now I feel I have to take advantage of the confidence and play in a similar fashion next few weeks. Hopefully the form gets better going forward.”

Lahiri’s numbers certainly picked up this week. He tied third on driving accuracy, making accurate drives 71.43% (40/56) of the time. He was 50% on sand saves (4/8) and 69.44% (50/72) on greens in regulation. Anirban also jumped 13 spots on the FedexCup table, occupying 88th place after last week.
