Arjun Atwal stars in Kolkata leg of Audi Quattro Cup 2016

February 12, 2016: India’s golfing legend Arjun Atwal was on hand to witness the dramatic entry of his
?elder? brother Govind Atwal into the India final of the Audi quattro Cup 2016. Govind combined with Rajib Ghose for a total of 64 Stableford points to emerge as the top team amongst Audi owners on the second day of the Kolkata leg of the multi-city event, hosted at Mecca of Indian golf, Royal Calcutta Golf Club, here on Friday by Audi Kolkata.

The Kolkata leg saw the presence of India’s most celebrated golfing export, Arjun Atwal, who added to the grandness of the occasion. He imparted useful tips to the golfers and as part of the great quattro drive and teed off for all the players on hole number one with the iconic Royal clubhouse as the backdrop.

“It was wonderful coming back home to Royal and being a part of the great quattro drive and interacting with the lot of passionate golfers.” Said Arjun. He added, “The icing on the cake was of course seeing Govind win today and I hope both of them go on to win the India final as well.”

Earlier, in the first round on Thursday, the duo of Amit Daga and Rajiv Pasari qualified for the India finals after combining for a total of 63 points. They finished top amongst the Audi owners and second runners up overall. Rohan Shroff and Binod Bansal teamed up to take home the winners’ trophy with 66 points while Harmandar Bindra and Rohit Jalan finished runners up with 64 points.

The event was played on the Team Stableford off individual Single Peoria Handicap system with six hidden holes and the individual scores of both players on the team were added to arrive at the final tally.

In the various skills competitions held alongside the main event, Sanjay Sureka and Manoj Joshi won the ‘Straightest Drive’ on Hole No. 05 while Pratik Lakhotia and Sandip Ghosh won the ‘Closest to the Pin’ on Hole No. 02. Umang Puri and Karan Singh took home the ‘Longest Drive’ award on Hole No. 15.

The Audi quattro Cup, in its 26th year this season, has become one of the most distinguished amateur golf tournaments around the world bringing together over 90000 golfers from 54 countries. The 8th season of the Indian edition will see it travel to 12 other cities and see the participation of over 1500 golfers.

Audi Hyderabad will host the next leg at the Boulder Hills Golf & Country Club on February 14.
