With onset of the Indian Monsoon, there is home cheer for golfing aficionados. The blue moon effect of July’s two moons could have very well put our young golfing nation on the world map yet again.

It was Anirban Lahiri giving his fans in India lots to cheer for- with the impetus his golfing career has seen in 2015. Teeing off at the British Open in early July had much in store for his anxious Indian fans who followed him for the five days of inclement weather at St Andrews- the world golfing Mecca. Towards the end of July another commendable performance at the famous golf club Crans-sur-Sierre in Switzerland.

Across the Atlantic and on USA’s West coast was young 10 year old Shubham Jaglan giving even more reason for inspiration with stunning back to back victories at the junior championships at San Diego and Las Vegas respectively. Shubham displayed tremendous potential and now a role model for young children from across rural parts of the country. Great kudos to his hard working coach, who has nurtured this new kid on the block.

India’s top amateur golfer Aditi Ashok showed an exemplary display of superlative – 67 – 8 under par score, this amazing feat from Indian National Champion made her the youngest player to win the prestigious 54 hole St Rules Trophy at St Andrews’s links a first time ever by an Indian female player with back to back under par scores!

Also in July at her home course KGA in Bengaluru her score of 64, yet another- 8 under on the final day stunned professional golfers at the hero Women’s Golf Tour as she walked away with the title. A silver medal at the International European ladies Amateur Championship gives young Aditi a promising heads up for being a role model for young golfing Indians with a dream to the 2020 Olympics.

In a competitive field Amandeep Drall, 2015 rookie on the domestic Hero Women’s Professional Golf Tour displayed great grit in taking the title at the last leg in the Southern swing of the tour.

Yet the icing on the cake came from a young 14 year old autistic golfer Ranveen Singh Saini who was helped with his aunt Monica Jajoo  lifted the gold medal  at the Special Olympics held last week as an alternate shot format. Salutations to the young teenager from a great golfing nation in the making.

Great cheer with more coming- July has truly been an August month for Indian golf. “SEE US GROW” is the new MANTRA for our young budding Indian golfers!!
