In a tremendous show of grit, Anirban Lahiri and Jeev Milkha Singh endured doing double duty at Oakmont. The course played brutally difficult as expected.

June 21, 2016: Jeev Milkha Singh is the golfer that took Indian golf to the next level. There was widespread joy when the 44 year old golfer entered his fifth US Open. Oakmont and weather combined to force Jeev out of the tournament, but after years of battling injuries Jeev is clearly on the mend. He has been playing some good rounds of golf in Asia and Europe and fans hope that a good run is round the corner.

In this special feature we look at some of his accomplishments through a brilliant career –

  • He is the highest ranked Indian golfer in the world and first broke into the top 100 in 2006.
  • He struggled with injury through the early 2000s, but in April 2006 he won the Volvo China Open, becoming the second Indian player to win on the European Tour after Arjun Atwal.
  • He is the first Indian to make the top 50 of the Official World Golf Rankings.
  • In 2007 he became the first Indian golfer to participate in the Masters Tournament
  • Jeev Milkha Singh is the first Indian professional golfer to become a member of the European Tour.
  • Jeev won his second Order of Merit title on the Asian Tour in 2008
  • Singh achieved the highest ranking for an Indian in any major event at the 2008 PGA Championship in Oakland Hills. His T9 was the best finish for an Indian at a major till Anirban Lahiri eclipsed him by tying for fifth at the PGA Championship in 2015
  • Singh received India’s fourth highest civil honour, the Padma Shri in 2007
  • He won the Asian Tour Players’ Player of the Year Award in 2008
  • Jeev broke the European Tour’s record for the lowest number of putts in a tournament (94).
  • Jeev won the Volvo China Open, Casio World Open and Golf Nippon Series JT Cup
