Honoured to host woods@DGC: Kapur

Tiger

1550

Shiv Kapur will be one among the privileged few to join World no. 1 Tiger Woods on his 18-hole corporate outing at Delhi Golf Club (DGC). Kapur, one of the most successful golfers of India, has recently played alongside Woods but has never met him in person. Purdue University graduate feels it’s a matter of great pride to host one of the greatest golfers of all time at his home course.

Q.Tiger Woods at your home course, how is the feeling of being next to him as he tees off?

It is certainly a matter of great pride for DGC and me as a prodigy of this course to host one of the greatest golfers of all time. It would be like dream come true for DGC and all the members to find Woods among them.

Even though I have played with him on many occasions, but to tee with him at my home course is a great honour.

Q. The idea of Tiger coming to India can mean a lot for Indian golf, how do you read into this huge development?

Tiger’s visit to India is going to make a huge impact as it will generate nation-wide interest in the golf. There is a big buzz already not only in Delhi but the whole country. My club members are very excited and there is going to be people climbing all over the walls just to get a glimpse of Tiger.

So far, cricket dominates sports in India, so for at least one day the world’s top golfer is going to steal all the attention away from the cricket big-wigs. It will just be about golf and Tiger Woods.

Q. Given that DGC is your home course and you have grown up playing here, what kind of challenges would Tiger need to brace for?

DGC is certainly a new kind of challenge for him, being an old historical course, but I am sure he would not use much of his woods here. He might use a lot of irons or five woods and lot many drivers.

He is quite a shot maker; he will certainly enjoy this different kind of challenge . At DGC he has to shake the ball both ways. It should be a new experience for him.

Q. What can Tiger’s arrival in India do to the young/ junior golfers?

I am sure he will generate huge curiosity in young and junior golfers. All the members and juniors at Delhi Golf Club will be watching with enormous interest.

Tiger’s already had such a big impact on golf in India because seven or eight years ago we never saw young kids in India taking up golf and now in India those playing the game are getting young and younger and that’s predominantly due to Tiger.

Q.What kind of impact this first visit of World’s best golfer going to make in India?

His visit, not just from a golf perspective, but he being one of the biggest celebrities in the world and with him coming to India for a first time is going to generate a huge amount of interest in golf.
