Equipment for Amateurs: Choose wisely says Zubin Bhaseen

For me, my cap marker would be my favorite accessory, I always like to mark my ball on the green, so that it helps me and others to put their ball in without any distraction.

MY EQUIPMENT

I play over the weekends, So forgiving clubs are a must for me. I am using Mizuno JPX 850 Forged Irons, JPX 850 Driver, the new JPX EZ II Woods and the Blue Mizuno S5 Wedges. They help me improve my game.

THAT DRIVE
I have been using the Mizuno JPX 850 Driver for some time now, it is forgiving and helps me to hit straight and on fairways, it has lot of adjustability options which I can change to get to perfect match of spin and launch.

GOLF BALLS
I am currently using Mizuno JPX Golf Balls, these are three layer ball, which is soft and helps to give me required the spin on the greens. The 512 Dimples on the ball, also help me to get extra distance.

I CAN’T DO WITHOUT
For me, my cap marker would be my favorite accessory, I always like to mark my ball on the green, so that it helps me and others to put their ball in without any distraction.

MY FAVOURITE SHOT
It would be around the greens, which I play with my wedges. I feel hitting long can be done with ease, but the most difficult game is around the greens, and we should use our wedges properly to lower our scores.

ADVISE TO AMATEURS, WEEKEND GOLFERS

  • I feel when you are mid level player, you know how to play the game but you want the perfect clubs, suiting you – So Custom fitting should be done, by having the clubs set up for your style of play, you can find them far more consistent, accurate and forgiving. Companies like Mizuno and Titleist are doing custom fitting in India not only for Pros but also for Amateur and Mid Level Golfers.
  • While at the range look for a driver that delivers consistent distance and accuracy, not one over the other.
  • Getting good Hybrids should always be preferred over long irons, as they are more easier to hit and gives a lot more distance.
  • In addition to the sand wedge and pitching wedge, many players find that a lob-wedge is a good addition to the bag especially for those awkward pitch shots over bunkers where you need to get the ball up and down quickly. So always get a Lob Wedge
  • Lastly the Balls – As a beginner, distance balls may be the first choice, but as you gain in ability, control is more important. Look for a golf ball that combines distance with control, yet is still affordable enough so that you don’t weep copiously when you slice a ball into a nearby lake!
