Vaishavi Sinha is among India’s most upcoming female golfers. She is the recipient of the Take Solutions India Golf Awards in 2015 for the Rising Player-Female. Vaishavi plays both on the WGAI and the Symetra Tours. What keeps her game ahead and how does she tailor-make her needs for equipment? Here’s a chat with golfingindian.com

What equipment do you pick for accuracy and distance?

Vaishavi: I use PING putter, wedges, hybrid, woods and driver and Srixon irons. I’ve been playing PING all throughout college and they agreed to help me out to help start my pro career. I switched to Srixons after getting fitted in India and they were the best fit for my swing. Thanks to the fitting, Srixon has helped me launch the ball higher, put more spin and increase the margin of error. They have also helped me gain some distance and accuracy. I like that PING offers different types of bounce in their wedges and I can pick the one that suits me best.

What driver do you use and what purpose does it serve for you?

I use the PING Anser driver. 9.5 degrees. Regular flex. The launch angle I get with this particular driver is optimal for my swing speed and allows me to get the maximum carry distance without losing out on the roll. I have used previous models of PING drivers and they have all suited me very well.

How do you pick your balls?

I use the Titleist Pro-V 1. I have chosen that ball because it has a softer outer shell which I find preferable for chipping and putting. For my iron game this ball provides a lot of spin. It also helps to launch the ball lower off the tee and therefore, get more distance.

No golf is complete without its accessories. What’s your favourite?

Sunglasses! Cannot play without them. They protect my eyes from the bright rays of the sun and reduce squinting. I use Oakleys with polarized lenses that have a light tint. Even if it is not sunny I can still use the shades to protect from the blowing wind and dust.

What’s your favourite shot and why?

My favorite shot is the 70 yard wedge shot for which I normally use my 56 degree PING Anser wedge. On par 5s if I need to lay up that’s the distance I shoot for and even if I’m a little off, I know the swing will be slightly more or less than the 70 yard shot swing.

As a pro woman golfer, what kind of equipment should mid-level female players pick up?

The equipment doesn’t matter as much as the specifications do. It’s important to make sure the clubs are of an adequate length and the shaft has the appropriate flex required proportionate to the swing speed of the player. The weight of the club and the lie angle also need to be looked at depending on the individual.
