Nov 01, 2013. They are young, zealous and go-getters. For these top-notch women golf professionals in the country, golf is a passion they never want to part ways with. India Golf Awards are the place to vote them in.

 

The golden girls of Indian Golf, boisterous Sharmila Nicollet, sassy Shweta Galande, steady Ankita Tiwana and focused Vani Kapoor are the four lined up for the people’s choice award of favorite golfer.

 

The only Indian to have retained her LET card for two consecutive years , Bangalore golfer Sharmila Nicollet is not just master of her game but she also carries a charming demeanor which makes many a head turn.

 

Nicollet won the 2009–2010 Order of Merit on the Women’s Golf Association of India and then five further events to finish on top of the 2010– 2011 Order of Merit. She finished the top Indian golfer tied 22 at the 2011 Hero Honda Women’s Indian Open, with the lowest score of the day in the final round.

 

Pune girl, Shweta Galande turned Pro this year. In her rookie year she won 9th leg of Hero women’s Pro Golf Tour. She has made her mark in the amateur circuit as well. She is a two-time (2011 &2012) winner of the Metropolitan Amateur Golf Championship, at St Louis, USA. Earlier she also won the Pakistan Open Amateur Ladies Golf Championship in 2008.

 

Delhi golfer Ankita Tiwana took up golf at the age of 12. She got some good exposure and lessons in golf when she went to the United States for her high school education. After returning back, she has been giving consistent performance, she finished third at the 10th leg of Hero Championships last year.

 

Ankita’s obsession for golf apart, she is a short distance athlete as well. She loves to dance and keep herself fit.

 

The winner of 12th and 13th leg of Hero Women’s Pro Golf Tour, Vani Kapoor, at the age of nine started going t to the golf course only to spend more time with her dad. Soon she found herself getting attracted to the serenity of the ambience and the lure of holing the ball into the pin. Ever since she never stopped swinging the clubs.

 

After making her entry into the Indian women squad for the 2010 Asian Games, Vani Kapoor has come a long way.
