Gurbaaz Mann seeks to break new ground for Indian golf

August 04, 2015: Some times it takes a revolution to break through and open new vistas for sport. An initiative by Gurbaaz Mann in the USA is seeking to do just that for Indian golfers on the PGA TOUR. The established path of progression for golfers in India has been an arduous journey, much like a game of snake and ladders.

Players have been battling for years, working their way through the maze. Start on the PGTI Tour, graduate to the Asian Development and Asian Tours before qualifying for European Tours. If they did accomplish that impressive feat, then they needed to consistently do well there to try and forage into the PGA TOUR. It was far from viable for Indian players, who struggled to arrange the resources needed for this complicated journey.

Mann and an enthusiastic team of Indian golfers are seeking to break new ground by using crowd funding as a means to break into the American golfing circuit to try and earn the right to compete on the richest Tour in golf. Rahul Bajaj, part of this team on tour is enthusiastic about the effort. “Gurbaaz Mann wanted that more players can be helped through funding to come and qualify for the PGA tour. He believes that we are skilled and no less than any top players, hence all we need is a push in the direction and funding to reach the dream.”

The players and myself did not need any convincing. PGA Tour is where they eventually want to be. And now finally we found a way to get there through the iapga and the supporters from the local Indian communities here.

The courses here are well manicured and consistent, which makes hitting aggressive shots much easier. Having said that it makes the game of golf lot simpler when you know how the ball will react where it pitches. The conditions are true.

Beyond all the mechanics, this ambitious group is seeking to travel around the country and provide players avenue to experience golf in the USA. The hope that these players can make the next level and work their way into the PGA TOUR will be fondly cherished by the many fans of the game in India.
