Golf has been centred around the USA and Europe for many decades now. But Asia is catching up and real fast. The fledgling Asian Tour is driven by Mike Kerr. Anand Datla caught up with Mike, the dynamic CEO of the Asian Tour. He is excited about the future of the game on the continent and is confident that India shall play a key role in the growth of the game.

In this two part interview, we bring to you our conversation with Kerr. Here’s Part I

Anand Datla – Greetings Mike and thank you for accepting this request from GolfingIndian.com. Can we start by understanding your vision for the Asian Tour?

Mike Kerr – At the start of our 2013 season which marked our milestone 10th season as a player-led organisation, we outlined a 10-year vision which included having a full season of around 35 events with a total prize fund of over US$100 million by the year 2023. It is also our aim to see more Asian nations embracing the game through the support of the corporate sector and governments as golf is recognised as one of the fastest growing sports in the world. We also envisage having more than 10 Asian Tour members, including Indian players, qualifying for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. I
