Vijay Divecha is the golf guru who is by Anirban Lahiri’s side at his most prestigious events. Lahiri has trained under him for years and trusts his advise and suggestions on his game. Divecha is currently with Lahiri at Incheon City at the Presidents Cup. He talks to us about the spectacular atmosphere at the team event.
What’s the atmosphere like at the venue of Presidents Cup?
The atmosphere is electric. It’s not often that you have 24 of the world’s top players in one place and only 24. It’s a Team match play so that is always more exciting. The presence of greats like Jack Nicklaus, Peter Thomson, Nick Price, Fred Couples, and others adds to the atmosphere.
There is tremendous excitement and hope within the Internationals – how do you feel about the way they are poised in this event?
Historically the US starts favourites going by their past performances but I feel the internationals will spring a few surprises.
What’s your assessment of Anirban’s form right now?
Anirban is in fine form and he will do his best. He has prepared for this cup and is striking the ball well. Driving off the tee has always been his strength and he is driving it well. His putting form is also very good right now and this will be the key to win matches.
What’s your take on the course and what it takes to play there.
The course is in very good shape. Excellent design, long and greens are getting quicker by the day. More than anything the weather has been good so far.
What has been your memorable moment so far?My memorable moment so far was at the opening ceremony when they played the Indian National Anthem…..that was it. Makes one proud.
