Golf In India: Selecting the best equipment for your junior golfer and child can be a daunting task. Rajiv Talwar has some valuable tips.

[Q] What accessories are a must for juniors? [/Q]

[A] Golf should be a fun for Juniors, the game as it is very serious , accessories a nice way to motivate. However accessories must be Golf oriented like Gloves, Tee Boxes with tees of all sizes, a marker pen, towel and of course hooks attached to Golf bag.

Girls may have in addition sun block, arm sleeves. Added interest by maintaining colour choice etc is important. Golf is a lot about a style statement opportunity too. [/A]

[Q] What accessories can be left out as extras? [/Q]

[A] Spare Clubs & Balls are the heaviest to carry – leave them for practise sessions. [/A]

[Q] What considerations must be kept in mind about the shaft flex? [/Q]

[A] It’s technical and individualistic so consult your Instructor/coach- do not go by just a pro shop advise. [/A]

[Q] Why is the weight of the club critical for junior golfers? [/Q]

[A] Juniors are developing and many muscles do not develop until puberty. It is a most important factor to eliminate injury. Always be advised by your Instructor /coach on the weight of your clubs. [/A]

[Q] What advise do you have for adults who are putting their kids to golf? [/Q]

[A] I have a few things to remind them of. [/A]

• Make it fun for the kid.

• Keep motivating them regardless of success or failure in competition rounds.

• Make them play with other kids

• Do play with your kid at least once a week or accompany them on the course.

• If golfing, you play from your designated tee and let kid play from proper yardages he is used to.

• Golf is the only game kids & adults can play together for a competitive round.

• MOST IMPORTANT – never ever Parent should force his/her views on him/her. Let the child innovate himself/herself- chances are the kid is more talented than you. Surely no Parent would mind that.
