May 28, 2015: Anirban Lahiri had a difficult start to the Irish Open when he signed off on a 73 in the first round of the European Tour event. Jeev Milkha Singh shot 5-over 76, while Shiv Kapur struggled to a 78.

Lahiri made a birdie-bogey start before making three straight pars to make a steady start to his round. A birdie at the 6th allowed some breathing space, but a bogey at the eighth dropped Anirban back to even just before he made the turn.

After making six consecutive pars, Lahiri surrendered the third bogey of his round at the 15th hole. He finished with a six at the par-5 18th hole to end his day at 2-over 73.

Padraig Harrington made a remarkable return from injury to shoot 67 and take charge of the clubhouse. The game was still on at the time of this report.

Jeev Milkha Singh made five bogeys in the first nine holes, before adding two more on the return stretch to slip outside the top 100 at the end of the first round.

Shiv was in an equally difficult situation at 7-over through 18 holes. The Indian, who has reached here after gaining his qualification to the US Open, was off colour on the first day.

He made five bogeys and a double bogey on the front stretch, making bogey or worse on each hole from the 5th through the 9th holes. Kapur also made bogeys at 16 and 17 to finish in T137.

With all three Indians over par at the end of the first day, Friday will see them battle by the skin of their teeth to try and salvage their way into the weekend.

The host, Rory McIlroy had a completely forgettable outing. The world No.1 made a nine bogeys and no birdies as he slipped near the bottom of the board with an 80.
