September 21, 2014: The Selangor Masters finished in a tense play off between Chapchai Nirat and Antonio Lascuna. The Thai made a short par putt to edge the Filipino veteran in the first play-off hole at the Worldwide Holdings Selangor Masters. Anirban Lahiri finished third after narrowly missing out on the play-off, when he made bogey at the final hole, while needing a birdie to join the duo in front of him. SSP Chowrasia finished two shots behind Lahiri to finish in a tie for fourth with four other golfers. (Read more in Golf)

Lahiri had slumped to a 76 on Saturday after illness cost him dearly at a critical stage in the tournament. The Indian had lead the event through the first two days. Lahiri recovered well on Sunday to make five birdies and two bogeys as he went through his round in 68 to give himself a shot at the title. But needing a good finish to tie with the leaders, Lahiri got tight on 18 to surrender a bogey to finish at 8-under 276 to clinch third place.

“I really tried hard out there. But I didn’t putt very well and you can’t win tournaments if you don’t putt well. I’m really disappointed although I’ll finish third. Disappointed really with yesterday (when he shot a 76 after falling ill) and with how it turned out which is a big letdown,” said Lahiri. “When I birdied 17 to get to nine-under, I thought I could birdie 18 that would give me a good chance. But I missed the fairway on 18 and that’s a shot gone right there.”

Chowrasia had also suffered a poor third round, but a 69 on Sunday helped him complete his duties at 6-under 278 to tie with Scott Barr, Paul Peterson, David Lipsky and Cameron Smith. Rashid Khan finished 1-over for the week to tie in 24th along with Jyoti Randhawa (72) among a group of seven men. Chiragh Kumar was T42 after making 75 in the final round.

Arjun Atwal finished a disappointing 70th, having another poor round of golf to finish with a 78.
