May 27,2014. Shiv Kapur’s golf alma mater, Delhi Golf Club is really proud of him today. Kapur has got his first entry to the US Open, one of the four Majors in golf. This qualification comes a year after Kapur played the British Open where he also lead for the first eight holes. Additionally Kapur form is in full display despite the debacle at the BMW championship where he didn’t even make the cut.

I.V.S Juneja, President of the Delhi Golf Club commented on Kapur’s qualifying for the US Open saying,’’It is a very proud moment for India. It is an achievement in his own right. Even if he doesn’t win, we wish he will be among the top 10. I wish him all the very best.”

His win against Tiger Woods earlier this year in the same old DGC course has been almost a dream come true for him. Kapur grew up playing on the Delhi Golf Club and so it’s a rather special place for him. Earlier this year – for what its worth – Kapur and Anirban Lahiri beat Tiger Woods in a skins game at the DGC. And so all of Kapur’s achievements are closely watched by the club and its members.

After Kapur returned from playing the British Open last year, kids would greet him as ‘the guy who played The Open’ – such was the impact at the Club. Juneja further said such news goes a long way in suggesting that golf in India is looking up. “I think India is doing very well. Golf as a sport is going up and Delhi Golf Club is happy to be focussed in promoting it.”
