Digvijay Singh goes out fishing

July 23, 2014. Digvijay Singh loves nature and wildlife and so on his trip to Kashmir he took off from the fairways to explore some fishing. “If you can stay outdoors, why stay indoors,” shares the multiple time winner on the PGTI. Singh has been an adventure fanatic and manages to get more out of each trip and tournament when they are travelling to great locations. This time during the PGTI Kashmir Masters, Singh and his best friend and nature lover Jyoti Randhawa set course to explore the trout-ful waters of the valley.

Kashmir has many snow & spring fed streams. The season for fishing runs from April to October. The larger rivers like Sindh, Lidder, Erin, Ferozpur, Aharbal, Doodh Ganga, Daksum, Noobug, Ahlan, Krishen Ganga & Hirpur etc. are covered with snow, which starts melting between the month of May to July. Among Spring fed streams best for trout fishing are Kokernag, Verinag, Sukhnag. There are over 61 beats open for anglers throughout the season. Each beat about 3 – 4 km long & one can easily have a day trip fishing in any of the areas.

“We just got out and got a fishing license and here we are,” said Singh as he and Randhawa got their fishing equipment ready to unwind with a bait. You can catch fish everywhere from the lakes to rivers or back country creeks.
