Nepal Earthquake: Surya Masters postponed

April 25, 2015. A massive 7.8 magnitude earthquake centered less than 50 miles from Kathmandu rocked Nepal with devastating force early Saturday, killing hundreds in the area. Tremors were felt across the region, with further loss of life in India and on Mount Everest. A Nepali minister said there had been “massive damage” at the epicentre. In the light of this massive human tragedy, PGTI has decided to indefinitely postpone the upcoming golf tournament in capital city of Kathmandu. In a statement issued short while ago, the golf body said they extended deepest condolences.

“We regret to inform you that as a result of the high-intensity earthquake that struck Nepal this morning, the PGTI, NPGA, NGA and the sponsors, have decided to postpone the Surya Nepal Masters 2015 golf tournament which was scheduled to be held at the Gokarna Golf Resort in Kathmandu, Nepal, from April 29 to May 2.

The earthquake has caused widespread damage to life and property across Nepal, especially in Kathmandu. We at the PGTI extend our heart-felt condolences to all those who have lost their near and dear ones in this massive tragedy.

In the prevailing circumstances, the PGTI, NPGA, NGA and the sponsors, deemed it fit to reschedule the Surya Nepal Masters to a later date. The fresh dates for the event will be announced in the course of time.”
