Ryder Cup season is upon us now, with the competition set to dazzle millions of eager followers across the globe. And the games have literally begun, even before the players get on course at the beautifully decked Gleneagles venue in Scotland. Rickie Fowler took netizens on a little trip just before he got on board a transatlantic flight for the competition. The young golfer posted a picture of himself with a swank new cut that included the letters USA cut into his scalp in support of his team.

Fowler took to Instagram to post a picture of himself with his new haircut, posted hot off the press from right inside the barbershop. As the twelve member team and their captain depart to Scotland, this was indeed a spirited manner in which to raise passions within his team ahead of the iconic event. Fowler is headed to the event with his confidence boosted by a solid performance during the recently concluded FedExCup events.

The shots are being fired rapidly from either side. Team USA captain Tom Watson was at the receiving end of some pointed advice from Paul Azinger, who won the cup for the Americans against a formidable European team in 2008. “Every once in a while you get Ryder Cups when you have to find a player and this year America must find McIlroy,” Azinger said. “Because if you can find him and break him, then you are going to deliver a blow like they used to deliver to us when they beat Tiger. If their show-pony, if their guy who finishes top four every week goes down the first morning then I think you can wrest the momentum of this match.”

Meanwhile, McIlroy himself was on Sky Sports exuding confidence ahead of the tricky encounter. McIlroy felt Fowler could have a key role to play for the Americans. ‘Rickie Fowler – he could be a real talisman for the American team,’ McIlroy told Sky Sports on Sunday. ‘Bubba Watson, Keegan Bradley, Phil (Mickleson) as well. Everyone’s been talking about Europe being favourites but the Americans have still got a very strong team. We can’t be complacent at all.’

Asked about his own role, he added, ‘there’s a few guys that I can play with. You might see a few interesting pairings next week. I think we’ve got a good mix of guys and I think the pairings we’re going to have will be very strong.’
