Pune, 27th February 2015: Veteran Golfer Smriti Mehra today showcased her experience to pull off a stunning win at the Hero-Oxford Women’s Pro Golf Championship. The INR 6,00,000 event, the sixth leg of the Hero Women’s Professional Golf Tour 2015, culminated today at the picturesque Oxford Golf & Country Club in Pune. Smriti who started the day at tied fourth place, played excellent golf to finish her final round with the days lowest total of three under 69 and top the leader board with a total of 214 after 54 holes. Trailing Smriti by a stroke, to finish as the runner’s up at 215 after the final round, was Kapurthala youngster Gursimar Badwal. Overnight leader and Noida golfer Vaishavi Sinha finished third carding a total of 216 after 54 holes.

 

Smriti started her campaign today with aplomb, carding three successive birdies on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th holes, followed by just a lone bogey on the 9th hole in her front nine. Her back nine was relatively uneventful, as she carded just one bogey on the 11th hole. The highlight of her game today was an eagle on the 16th hole, which virtually sealed her victory. Kapurtahala golfer Gurismar Badwal on the other hand played a controlled round, which consisted of four birdies on the 2nd, 9th, 16th and 18th holes along with three bogeys on the 5th, 10th and 12th holes. Gursimar, who celebrated her 23rd birthday yesterday, could not have asked for a better birthday present, finishing as the runner’s up.

 

Noida golfer Vaishavi Sinha lost out on her momentum, starting her campaign with a bogey on the first hole. The overnight leader finished third, carding 216 after 54 holes. Vaishavi’s final round of one over 73 included four bogeys on the 1st, 8th, 10th and 11th holes. Her round also consisted of three birdies on the 3rd, 9th and 15th holes.

 

Indian origin UK golfer Kiran Matharu finished fourth with a total of 219, followed by Vani Kapoor at the fifth position with a total of 220. Local girl Shweta Galande along with Kolkata’s Neha Tripathi finished at the tied sixth place with identical totals of 221 after 54 holes. Chandigarh’s Saaniya Sharma, Hero MotoCorp Sponsored Bengaluru golfer Sharmila Nicollet and Panchkula’s Amandeep Drall finished tied eighth with identical totals of 222 after the final round.

 

The Hero Women’s Professional Golf Tour 2015 now moves for its last leg of the western sojourn to the Poona Club Golf Course for the seventh leg to be played from the 2nd – 5th March 2015.
