Meet the wives of some of India’s top golfers. They are often at the course, and when not, they are cheering from far way at home. Maitreyi Gangjee travels with Rahil on most of his tournaments. A self-confessed foodie, she is the captain of the gang that goes out to explore food and the local scene. “Rahil is a great guy and his love for the game and his achievements and future prospects make it worthwhile. It’s amazing that one can successfully pursue a career in something one truly loves to do and be his own boss. I do my best to make everything else in our life function smoothly and also make it a point to travel with him every once in a while and watch him play and spend quality time with him.”
At almost all of his tournaments back in India, Simatini Chawrasia is by her husband’s side, walking the course during the game. She admits it’s not easy to be with him at most international tournaments. In this picture she was at the Hero Indian Open 2016, where won a playoff against defending champion Anirban Lahiri.
For the relatively newly-weds on tour, the journey has been intensely busy. Ipsa Jamwal and Anirban Lahiri have moved to the USA for Lahiri to pursue his PGA Tour schedule. Jamwal – his childhood love – has been his partner in all efforts at some of the sport’s most important tournaments including the Majors.
We seldom get to see her, but Kudrat Singh is immersed in raising Jeev Milkha Singh’s young boy. Occasionally she would be spotted at a tournament. A few years ago she was seen at the Bank Austria Tournament cheering for Jeev Milkha Singh who won that event.
Irina Brar, wife of golfer Sujjan Singh, has been an ace golfer herself and knows the challenges that come with being on tour. She currently trains golfers on their mental game in Chandigarh and also spends most of her time between Delhi and Chandigarh primarily to raise their young daughter. Seen here Irina spent time with Sujjan at a tournament in Pune a couple of years ago.
Designer and a mom, Namrata Kapur travels now and then for her work, exhibitions and popup stores. Based in Delhi, she now also has a little one to look after. “Travel is something to look forward to,” shares Kapur. She met Chiragh at his brother’s wedding. “It wasn’t love at first sight but nevertheless quite a filmy plot.”
