Just as holiday season dons upon us, expect people to pack their bags and golf sets to explore new destination for golf. Those looking for spectacular weather, great sporting opportunities, art and culture – there may be no place like Spain. In the Madrid region, besides the capital, there are other interesting sites such as Alcalá de Henares which has been declared a World Heritage site. It is located just 30 kilometres from Madrid. The town of San Lorenzo del Escorial, a Historic-Artistic Site, grew up around the Monastery of El Escorial. This architectural gem was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Its urban layout slowly developed around it, since the aristocrats and middle classes from the capital had their summer residences erected here. It is, in short, an elegant town rich in architectural heritage and surrounded by mountains and forests. You can have a game with the San Lorenzo del Escorial as background in one of the diverse golf fields that you can find around it.

Close to Madrid, another world heritage site is Aranjuez, declared as “Cultural Landscape” by UNESCO. In Aranjuez you can visit the Royal Palace, the gardens belonging to it, and the ring bull. Moreover, there are other interesting heritage cities not so far from Madrid, for example, there’s the city of Toledo, where you can still feel mix of Jewish, Muslim and Christian culture that used to coexist in the Middle Ages, and Segovia with its huge aqueduct built in the Roman Era.
