Sep 26, 2016: Rookie golfer Aditi Ashok earned her career best finish on the Ladies European Tour with a sixth place in the Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España Femenino at Aloha Golf Club in Marbella.

With a final round of 69, the 18-year-old from Bangalore ended on a 72-hole total of three-under-par, seven strokes behind the winner, local favourite Azahara Muñoz, who pipped American Beth Allen at the final hole.

Ashok, who represented India in the recent Olympic golf competition in Rio and tied for ninth at the ISPS HANDA Ladies European Masters in Düsseldorf a fortnight ago, said: “Overall I feel I didn’t play the front nine very well because I dropped a few shots every day but I played well in Germany and this week, so it’s positive. I’m looking forward to the next event.

“It’s good that I’ve improved, because I had a tied 20-something in Morocco. I did better in Pilsen, so my scoring has improved over the season and now it’s in full swing with a lot of LET events so I think that the more I play the better my game gets. It’s good that I’ve played these two events and now I’m going to play in France and more after that so I’m looking forward to the rest of the season.

“The first time as a professional is a bit different, although the game is the same. New Zealand, I didn’t really do well and then I got better. My long game has improved through the year as well. I got a new set at the beginning and then I got used to that. I would say that in the beginning of the year, we had five or six events until July, but now, in three weeks I’ve almost played three tournaments and I played in Rio. Playing in Rio really boosted my confidence because I was top 10 after the first two days.

“I know that this wasn’t my best as I still left a few putts out there, especially yesterday and today. If I can keep it together and do my best one week then I can hopefully get a win.”

Her next event will be the Lacoste Ladies Open de France in a fortnight at Chantaco Golf Club in Saint-Jean-de-Luz, south-western France.
