Aditi Ashok finishes T8 in FBM Ladies Open

Nov 29, 2019: Karolin Lampert has taken the clubhouse lead early in the second round of the the Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España Femenino at Aloha Golf Club this morning. India’s Aditi Ashok sharing the second place with Marianne Skarpnord with just a shot behind the lead.

Aditi carded brilliant five-under-67 with seven birdies and two bogeys to close with seven-under two day total. Aditi had a resilliant opening with four birdies in the front nine, two birdies at the first two holes and another two at 8th and 9th holes with a bogey in sixth hole. She added another three birdies in the back nine at 10th, 15th and 16th holes. But a bogey in the last hole made her compromise the share in first place and settle at T2.

Lampert started with three birdies in a row from the 10th, followed by bogeys on the 14th and 16th for a back-nine total of one under par 35, but made another run of three consecutive birdies from the first. Her third bogey, on the sixth, was countered by a birdie two on the eighth hole.

After signing for a second successive 68, Lampert said: “I think I played a lot better than I did yesterday and hit it a lot closer. I didn’t need to hole a lot of long putts. I definitely rolled in some good ones for par on the back nine and I’m happy with a lot of birdies today.

“There are some very interesting pin positions, but it’s okay because you don’t have long shots in to the greens. You don’t want to be on the wrong sides or it will be difficult to get a par. The front nine, which was my back nine, I think numbers four, five, six and seven were tricky, but I was able to manage it quite well.”

Lampert has multiple LET order of merit winner, Solheim Cup player and tournament champion Sophie Gustafson on your bag for the first time this week. Beth Allen claimed her first victory in the Ladies European Masters at The Buckinghamshire the last time Gustafson caddied for someone for the first time and Lampert is hoping for a similar effect, having come agonisingly close on several occasions.

“I really wanted to try to have a great caddie by my side and see if it helps me. I’m not used to having a caddie by my side, so it definitely helps having Sophie, especially with the pin positions and she is trying to keep me calm, which is great.

“I was hitting it where she told me to hit it. I didn’t miss a lot of shots, especially with my irons. I played a lot better. I was in good positions off the tee and hit a lot of fairways.”

Lampert won the 2015 Azores Ladies Open on the LET Access Series and played in the Spanish Open at Aloha Golf Club in 2016, but said: “When I was here three years ago I didn’t really like it, but I didn’t play well in that event. I like it. There are a few tricky tee shots out there, but it’s trying to focus on those. There are some tricky pin positions and you don’t want to be on the wrong side. If you are short of the pin, that’s good, because they are quite fast as well.”
