May 18, 2016: Ajit Agarkar was always known for his winning touch during his cricketing days. It appears lady luck hasn’t stopped smiling on the handsome cricketer. Agarkar played solid golf to win the India finals of the BMR World Corporate Golf Challenge. Shabbir Rawjee combined with the former Indian all-rounder to score 62 points to claim victory.

Playing with a handicap of 17, Agarkar showed he is well on his way to mastering the game of golf. His playing partner wasn’t too far back, with a handicap of 19. The duo combined well to score a comfortable victory over Shiva Reddy and Manohar Reddy.

The two Reddy’s finished six points adrift from the winners. The event featured over 600 corporate golfers. With over 7500 corporate golfers from around 40 countries, the competition is the largest corporate golf event in the world.

Sonam Chugh and Shashidhar Reddy are the defending champions, having won the last edition in Portugal. The national finals in Bengaluru featured twelve of the best teams in India, from Mumbai, Delhi and Bengaluru. The teams had earned the right to play the finals, via local competitions in Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru.

Pawan Puri and Arunjit Sodhi; Deepit Singh and Vedant Jhaver were the four finalists from Delhi. Ajit Agarkar and Shabbir Rawjee along with Akshay Puri and Tarun Bali came through the qualifiers in Mumbai. Sujit Somasunder, former cricketer from Karnataka and team Raj Arasu, Shiva Reddy and Manohar Reddy represented Bengaluru.

The global competition, in its 22nd edition, will be played in Portugal again. Agarkar and Rawjee will travel to Cascais to represent India in the world finals where the winning teams from 40 countries will converge to vie for the prestigious title.

An increasing number of cricketers, including Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, Murali Karthik, Kapil Dev and Agarkar are embracing golf as a means to stay healthy and competitive through their retirement years.
