Amandeep Drall wins in rain hit Bengaluru

July 29, 2016: Amandeep Drall was declared winner of the 11th leg on the Hero Women’s Professional Golf Tour. The WGAI event was hosted this week at the Prestige Golfshire in Bengaluru. Amandeep built a six shot lead over Sharmila Nicollet and Saaniya Sharma after 36 holes. The players were expected to play the final round on Friday, but incessant rains meant that the tournament committee decided to end the event as at the end of the second round.

With seven more events left to be played, the Hero Order of Merit 2016 is evenly poised at the top. There is less than twenty thousand separating Neha Tripathi, Vani Kapoor and Amandeep.

Neha won two of the eleven events she started for an earnings of Rs. 757,583. Vani, who has won 5 of the eight events she has played this season, is lying second at Rs. 743,350.

Amandeep, who won the third event of her season in Bengaluru this week, is trailing Vani by a slim margin of less than five thousand rupees. She has earned an income of Ra. 738, 534 from her eight starts this season.

In fourth place is Gursimar Badwal, whose Rs. 654,200 came from one victory in eleven events.

In Bengaluru this week, Amandeep took control with a brilliant 67 in the second round, fueled by seven birdies. She was lying at the top of the leaderboard, Thursday evening at 5-under 139.

Nicollet started off with an under par round of 71 on Wednesday, but double bogeys at the third and ninth left her with a 74 in the second round. She dropped to one over 145, to tie in second place with Saaniya.

Saaniya, fifth on the Hero Order of Merit, recovered from a 75 in the first round with an efficient 70 on Thursday to join Sharmila in the second spot.

Trisha Sunil (74 72), Neha Tripathi (73 73) and Vani Kapoor (74 72) were all lying in T4 with an overall score of 146.
