Amandeep leads round 1 at Ahmedabad

Amandeep Drall scored one under 71 to lead first day of the Hero Women’s Professional Golf Tour 2017 at the Kensville Golf & Country Club on Wednesday.

Jan 25, 2017: Amandeep Drall carded one under 71 to take the lead on the first day of the Hero Women’s Professional Golf Tour 2017 at the Kensville Golf & Country Club here on Wednesday.

Trailing her in second position is Smriti Mehra with a score of one over 73. The INR 6,00,000 event will culminate on 27th January.

Panchkula’s Amandeep Drall had an indifferent start, carding a bogey on the very first hole.

She went on to card a bogey and a birdie apiece on the 5th and 6th holes, to be one over in the front nine.The back half saw a much improved performance, with birdies on the 10th, 11th and 17th holes.

She would have been in a much stronger position but for a dropped shot on the last hole.

Kolkata’s Smriti Mehra had a shaky start, carding a double on the 3rd followed by bogeys on the 5th and 7th. Birdies on the 6th and 9th helped her to repair the damage.

She started the back nine impressively, carding birdies on the 10th and 14th holes, but lost the advantage with a double on the 15th followed by a bogey on the 17th.

Gurgaon’s Gaurika Bishnoi and Chandigarh’s Saaniya Sharma were tied third with identical scores of two over 74.

Gaurika would have hoped for a better start to her round as she carded a birdie less front nine, with bogeys on the 1st, 3rd, 5th and 7th holes.

She regained her composure and carded a bogey free back nine with birdies on the 12th and 14th holes.

Saaniya Sharma followed a similar script, with a birdie less front nine, dropping shots on the 1st, 3rd, 6th and 8th holes.

She changed gears on the turn, carding birdies on the 10th, 13th and 14th holes, while dropping just one shot on the 11th.

Delhi’s Mehar Atwal and Kolkata’s Neha Tripathi are tied fifth with identical scores of four over 76.

Mehar Atwal carded birdies on the 6th and 15th holes, while dropping shots on the 2nd, 4th, 7th, 12th, 16th and 18th.

Neha Tripathi’s lone birdie of the day came on the 17th hole, with bogeys on the 1st, 3rd, 7th, 14th and 16th.

Amateur Sifat Alag took the seventh position with a score of six over 78, followed by Kapurthala’s Gursimar Badwal in eighth position with a score of eighth over 80.
