Amandeep wins KGA Women’s Golf Championship 2016 in Karnataka

Amandeep Drall reigns supreme at KGA with 1 under 71 on the final day to claim a comfortable victory

22 July, 2016: Amandeep Drall carded 1 under 71 on the final day to claim a comfortable victory in the Hero-KGA Women’s Pro Golf Championship 2016 at the Karnataka Golf Association here on Friday.  Kolkata’s Neha Tripathi finished second with a total score of 224, followed by Kapurthala’s Gursimar Badwal in third position at 225. The INR 6,00,000 event culminated today.

Amandeep Drall had a shaky start and carded a bogey on the very first hole. The professional from Panchkula, however, regained her composure immediately and carded consecutive birdies on the 2nd and 3rd holes. She dropped another shot on the 7th hole in her front nine. On her return journey, she carded two more birdies on the 11th and 15th holes, while dropping a shot on the 18th hole to finish the round with a total score of 213. In the process, she claimed her second title of the season with a comfortable margin of eleven shots.

Neha Tripathi too carded 1 under 71 on the day to take the second position. She started with aplomb, firing three consecutive birdies on the 5th, 6th and 7th holes, while dropping a single shot on the 8th in her front nine. She carded two more bogeys on the 16th and 18th holes along with a double on the 10th in the latter half.  However, an eagle on the 11th with a birdie on the 14th helped her to retrieve the situation, and finish the round with a total score of 224, one shot clear of Gursimar Badwal.

Gursimar Badwal had an indifferent day in the park and carded five bogeys on the 7th, 9th, 15th, 16th and 17thholes. However, two birdies on the 14th and 18th helped her to control the damage and she finished the round with a score of 3 over 75.

Hero MotoCorp sponsored Sharmila Nicollet took the fourth position with a total score of 227 after 54 holes. Her round of 1 over 73 included two birdies on the 2nd and 10th holes, along with three bogeys on the 5th, 7thand 14th. Local girl Trisha Sunil finished fifth with a total score of 228 after the final round. She carded two birdies on the 3rd and 13th holes while dropping shots on the 2nd and 5th. She also carded a double bogey on the 10th hole to finish the round at 2 over 74.

Amateurs Millie Saroha and Suchitra Ramesh finished tied sixth with identical totals of 231. Kolkata’s Siddhi Kapoor took the eight position at 232, followed by Mysore’s Sonam Chugh and Jaipur’s Afshan Fatima in tied ninth at 233.

The Tour now moves to Prestige Golfshire for the 11th Leg to be played from 26th – 29th July.
