Anirban Lahiri closed out his role at Dell Match Play with a strong showing against Fabian Gomez

March 27, 2016: Anirban Lahiri finished 1-1-1 after a 4&2 victory over Fabian Gomez in his third match in Dell Match Play. Even though he could not make the knockout stages of the event, Lahiri can take heart from making a strong recovery after suffering a thumping defeat against Matt Kuchar in his first outing.

Lahiri lead by two over Justin Rose before surrendering half a point when he lost the final two holes of his contest against the Englishman on Thursday. (Latest Golf News)

Gomez took an early lead when Anirban made bogey at the par-4 second hole, but the match was squared when the Argentine returned the favour at the par-3 fourth hole.

The Indian took a lead on the next hole, where he made a birdie, increasing his lead to two by the eighth hole. But the two players made the turn with Anirban one up.

Subsequently though Lahiri gained firm control of the match when Gomez conceded the 12th hole after sinking into the water. Lahiri won the 15th and 16th holes to end the contest.

Anirban signed off with 1.5 points to his name, just the same as Rose. But it was Matt Kuchar that made progress to the round of 16 from group 7.

Kuchar lost his round of 16 to Brooks Koepka, ending the journey this week for the players from Anirban’s group.
