Anirban Lahiri fires a brilliant 65 at Firestone

Anirban Lahiri shot four birdies on the front nine, posting 65 in the WGC Bridgestone Invitational. Shubhankar Sharma made a bettling two over 72 in the first round.

PGA TOUR Release – August 03, 2018: In his first round at the World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational, Anirban Lahiri hit 8 of 14 fairways and 12 of 18 greens in regulation, and had a great day on the green leaving no misses on putts within 10 feet. Lahiri finished his day tied for 7th at 5 under; Ian Poulter is in 1st at 8 under; Rickie Fowler and Kyle Stanley are tied for 2nd at 7 under; and Patrick Cantlay, Si Woo Kim, and Jon Rahm are tied for 4th at 6 under.

Shubhankar Sharma battled his way through a 72, containing four bogeys and two birdies. He is currently sitting at T63.

On the 526-yard par-5 second hole, Anirban Lahiri reached the green in 3 and sunk a 30-inch putt for birdie. This moved Anirban Lahiri to 1 under for the round.

At the 200-yard par-3 fifth, Lahiri hit a tee shot 183 yards at the green, setting himself up for the 6-foot putt for birdie. This moved Lahiri to 2 under for the round.

At the 219-yard par-3 seventh, Lahiri hit a tee shot 200 yards at the green, setting himself up for the 8-foot putt for birdie. This moved Lahiri to 3 under for the round.

After a drive to the left intermediate rough on the 494-yard par-4 ninth hole, Lahiri chipped in his third, carding a birdie for the hole. This moved Lahiri to 4 under for the round.

Lahiri got a bogey on the 410-yard par-4 10th, getting on the green in 4 and one putting, moving Lahiri to 3 under for the round.

On the par-par-4 13th, Lahiri’s 187 yard approach to 12 feet set himself up for the birdie on the hole. This moved Lahiri to 4 under for the round.

After a drive to the left side of the fairway on the 667-yard par-5 16th hole, Lahiri hit an approach shot from 93 yards to 6 feet, setting himself up for the birdie on the hole. This moved Lahiri to 5 under for the round.

This is Lahiri’s third appearance in the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational where he finished T53 and T33 in 2016 and 2015 respectively. He was T5 after the opening round in 2016 following a 68.

This week is his ninth start in the World Golf Championships, with three T28s being his best finish. It is also his first WGC event in nearly two years.

Anirban has three top-10s this season at the CIMB Classic in Malaysia, CJ CUP @ NINE BRIDGES in South Korea and Travellers Championship. Lahiri is chasing a first victory on the PGA TOUR.
