Anirban Lahiri Olympic Dream

Anirban Lahiri is pushing ahead resolutely, working his way up the order in his maiden season on the PGA TOUR. He is also set to become the first Indian golfer to play all four majors for a second year running. It has taken a determined effort from Anirban to push the envelope for Indian golf.

With an average score of 71.07, Anirban is clearly pressing to ensure his continued presence on the most coveted golf tour on the planet. While Anirban, ranked 62nd in the world has been working with his long time coach Vijay Divecha, he has also sought the services of fitness trainer Ken McDonald.

The Indian is firmly entrenched in the top 100 of the Fedex Cup rankings, with the top 125 finding a spot in the first event of the Fedex Cup Series that concludes the season. He is currently lying in 94th spot on the rankings for the series.

Anirban has adjusted exceptionally well to the demand and rigours of the most competitive PGA TOUR, making 15 cuts in 19 starts. He is inching towards the million-dollar mark in earnings, with his current total at $815, 323.

Ken specializes in golf training, with a deep understanding of fitness and its impact on swing mechanics. “I am also working with a new trainer Ken McDonald here who is a specialist in golf fitness and the improvements are beginning to show,” said an optimistic Anirban in the lead up to the Open Championships at Royal Troon.

Fitness will be key to Anirban’s aspirations in the coming weeks. There is a tight schedule on the road ahead with the Open, the PGA Championship, Olympics and then the Fedex Cup Series set to take on the best performing professionals

The Olympics also presents a great opportunity for Lahiri to make a lasting impression on young Indian minds with a medal in Rio. Anirban’s investments in training and fitness augur well for both the game in India and the player himself.
