November 8, 2013. Anirban Lahiri is trying to make sure that the Indian Open trophy remains at home. The 26-year-old has climbed to No. 5 after carding five-under-67 at the finish of his round on day two. Lahiri, ranked 4th on the Asian Tour Order of Merit has so far shot 6 birdies and one bogey to soar from his round one position. While, Nirat Chapchai  of Thailand is at the top of the leader board as the second round is still in progress at Delhi Golf Club.

“Coming into this week, I think the whole bunch of us is looking strong to keep the Indian Open title at home. Muniyappa won the Hero Indian Open in 2009 and since then, no Indian has won it so it will be nice to break that run and keep the title at home,” the Banglore golfer had said in his blog at the beginning of the tournament.

Lahiri, at present is the second best Indian placed at the leader board after round one leader Rahil Gangjee of Kolkata, who is at 3rd position along with Angelo Que of Philippines. Shankar Das has descended to tied 15th, is the third best home challenger on the leader board.

“I put in two three woods this week. One is slightly longer than the other but straighter. I think it works out pretty well. My irons are pretty solid.

“I’ve sort of struggled a bit in the past few events, mostly with my putting. I’ve been working on that. I don’t want to change putters. I think it is just my eyes deceiving me. I just need to trust my line and my stroke.”

Lahiri was not at his best in the opening round as he finished his first round with a score of 71. However, Friday  was more fruitful at the course he seems to be quite familiar with.

“I’ve been playing here (Delhi Golf Club) since 2003. We know how to play this golf course now. The course is in great shape. If you hit it on the fairway, then you can pretty much attack the pins,” he said at the end of round two.
