May 23, 2014: India’s Jeev Milkha Singh opened with a card of 72 at the BMW PGA Championship, where former Wentworth resident Thomas Björn of Denmark fired the best round of his entire career after carding a brilliant 62 on the opening day.

The 43-year-old Björn’s eight birdies and an eagle set a new course record in the first round of  €4,750,000 event at Wentworth.

“You shoot great rounds in your career but to shoot 62 on this course, you can’t ask for more,” Björn said in European Tour report.

The one who missed cut last week at Spanish Open, was frustrated with things. However, this splendid start has revived his hopes as he went on to win the European Masters in 2011, the last time he shot 62 on The European Tour.

“To step out on this course of all courses and play like I did today was surprising. It was just one of those days where you walk off the course and think I want to keep playing.”

Shane Lowry carded eight under 68 to take second place on the leader board of BMW PGA Championship. Rafa Cabrera-Bello’s 65 on day one placed him one shot behind at third.

Disturbed with his breakup, Rory McIlroy came out better with a four under 68 on the opening day at Wentworth to lie at 8th position.

As the play was called off before the scheduled time, due to darkness the two other Indians in the field, Shiv Kapur and Gaganjeet Bhullar are yet to complete the first round. Shiv Kapur has started well to station at one under after nine holes. While, Gaganjeet Bhullar was not as impressive as he lies two over after the 11 holes.
