Nov 9, 2016: The Indian contingent at the Hero Women’s Indian Open is a sign of the changing times in Indian golf. The field of women is getting stronger each year with players like Amandeep Drall playing consistently both on the national and international stages. As the Hero Women’s Indian Open kicks off in Gurgaon, Amandeep looks confident about her chances at the DLF Golf and Country Club, Gurgaon.

“I just want to do better than last year and play my own game without thinking about winning or losing,” said Amandeep in her interaction with the press.

Currently the leader of the Hero Order of Merit, Amandeep turned professional only last year and is focusing on advancing her game a notch higher. The Panchkula-based golfer has already clinched four titles so far this season including the one she won at the DLF Golf & Country Club. Her most recent victory was in October when she played the 15th leg of the Hero women’s Professional golf Tour on the same golf course as the HWIO 2016.

“It feels good and definitely I feel a lot more confident as I won with a good score in the tournament. Also, knowing the course increases the level of confidence,” said Amandeep to Golfing India. Amandeep was four under in that WGAI event, trumping the field by a massive seven strokes

With an already upward moving season going, the 23-year-old player just has two tournaments left on the Indian tour so she “definitely wants to finish it on a high.” She hopes to win those two tournaments to secure her place at the top of the Hero Order of Merit.

Ask her about the Indian contingent taking part in this prestigious Hero MotoCorp backed event and she told us, “Everybody is playing well this season, so we are really looking forward to it. Let’s see if we have an Indian winner this time.”

Amandeep is confident of competing well with the other 113 players who have come from all around the world to participate in the $400,000 event. She believes that defending champion Emily K Pederson, Sweden-born Caroline Hedwall and India’s own Aditi Ashok could all do well this week.
