Chowrasia T31 at Wales Open, Gregory Bourdy clinches win

September 2, 2013 India’s lone flag bearer at ISPS Handa Wales Open, SSP Chowrasia ended with one-under 70 to finish with a total of three-over 287 on Sunday.

 

Chowrasia, was the only one to survive until last, among three Indians who started out the week, had shot 75 in the third and that cost him a better finish at The Celtic Manor Resort.

 

Shiv Kapur and Jeev Milkha Singh had earlier missed the cut.

 

SSP Chowrasia rounds off with one-under 70 at Wales Open tied 31 with prize money of over 16000 euros.

 

Frenchman Gregory Bourdy sealed the victory with  brilliant three successive birdie shots in the final rounds. He almost snatched away this win from overnight leader Peter Uihlein.

 

Into the final round Gregory Bourdy and America’s Peter Uihlein were tied for the top spot after five holes. Bourdy was two-under through five and Uihlein was one-over after five.

Grégory Bourdy found the Midas touch on the greens to produce a stunning finish that sealed victory at the ISPS Handa Wales Open.

Having holed a 50 footer from just off the green on the difficult 16th, he picked up another shot by draining a tricky one from 15 at the next.

 

The The Celtic Manor Resort’s par five last proved no obstacle as Bourdy ridiculously sunk a 30 footer for another birdie to complete a 67 that moved him to eight under par.

 

“It was an amazing round,” he said. “I made an amazing finish with three birdies in a row and I am so happy.
