11 July 2020: After 22 straight cuts on the PGA TOUR, Collin Morikawa missed the first cut of his career last week at the Rocket Mortgage Classic. The missed cut seems to have liberated him from the burden of chasing Tiger Woods‘ mark of 25 straight weekends. Morikawa played another low round in the Workday Charity Open, making a 66 despite suffering three bogeys.

Morikawa played his last eight holes in five-under par, making six birdies to the three made on his forward stretch. In the second round he started off the tenth tee, finishing with a birdie on the ninth hole.

At 13-under through 36 holes, Morikawa enjoys a four-stroke edge over Sam Burns, but several golfers were still on the course. Sam Burns also made a 66 on Friday.

Hideki Matsuyama continued to play solid golf. The Japanese star was 9-under through 15 holes, four-under for the round with five left to play.

Ian Poulter and Chase Seiffert shot 69 and reached the weekend at 7-under 137. The cut was projected to fall at 1-under, which left Jordan Spieth hanging in the balance at even par. He made another 72, which included four birdies, two bogeys and a double at the par-3 eighth hole.

Byeong Hun An made an eight shot swing in the second round, adding a 68 to his first round 76. But at even par, he too, is lying on the wrong side of the projected cut.

Brooks Koepka was also staring at an early exit. After an opening 74, he was two over through eleven holes and needs a miraculous recovery to stand any chance of staying over for the weekend. Matthew Wolff conceded a 77 in the second round to fall to 5-over, one stroke behind Koepka.
