2013 has been an inspiring year for Indian Golfers. We have seen some great highs from the men’s and ladies tour and it only encourages all the others out there to realize that we are a nation that can churn out golfers at the world level. We have had wins, we have proved that our game is on top of the charts, we have also hosted some brilliant tournaments on Indian soil. The one thing to keep in mind is that hard work, dedication and discipline are paramount in achieving these goals. And this recipe doesn’t seem to change no matter what sport you play or how you approach the mental aspects of a game.

I would also like to emphasize that though talent is very much present, the support from sponsors is essential to take players to the next level. The sponsors who have been kind enough to promote golf have shown increasing levels of interest and have upped the prize money over the years. However considering the competition at the global level, we also need to pay heed to things like fitness, club fitting and nutrition. It’s the reality – there are just too many very good golfers around the world. Some players cannot afford all these nuanced aspects on their own and would require the help to capitalize on their potential through extra effort, and even sponsorship money. It would be great if we see some more enthusiasm from more names in the world of business who can extend such support, to encourage the players to go the next level.

The golfing community in India is still small and we need to make golf more accessible and affordable for the masses. This will have to be a collaborative effort from the whole industry. Let’s try to make golf BIG! That’s really my pitch, my appeal to golf supporters in the year 2014.

Looking forward to an even better golfing year in 2014. I would like to take this opportunity and wish all the fellow golfers a great golfing year ahead!
