The Women’s Spirit…a song sung in Asia- Pacific’s most popular team championship…A 33 year association as well as a second time visit to Taipei for the renowned Asia-Pacific Ladies Invitational Amateur Golf Championship also known as the Queen Sirikit Cup, I have been more impressed that before. The Sunrise Golf and Country Club venue for the 35th Queen Sirikit Cup located atop a beautiful hill side. The Robert Trent Jr designed Golf course has been set at a 6000 plus yards for Asia- Pacific amateur golfers to display their golf power. The golf course has a spectacular view with a magnificent club house, beautiful rooms. The resort club is managed by a charming lady General Manager, who has left all spell bound with the hospitality and splendour that has been laid out for participants and delegates for the championship this year.

The Song composed in 1996 by the Thailand Ladies Golf Association to promote friendship amongst the fairer sex in the Asia- Pacific through the game of golf .

The Queen Sirikit Cup in its 35th years adopted a new motto in 2012 at the Singapore edition “WHERE LEGENDS ARE BORN”. This prestigious Championship has been the flagship Amateur championship in the Asia – Pacific region for three and half decades. Over the years the championship seems to be growing younger and younger with the field of players averaging 16 years of age.

Rae Vadee Suwan who has been coordinating this for the past 35 years needs no introduction. In her seventies from Thailand has year after year ensured that this championship hosted in rotation between 15 nations is governed by splendid etiquette. The women who sing the theme song “The Women’s Spirit” each passing year- ends on the note “ OUR HEARTS ARE FLYING HIGH AND HIGH, THIS IS WOMEN’S SPIRIT, THIS IS OUR SPIRIT, AND THE SPIRIT, SO HIGH AND FINE”.
