Vani Kapoor Looks Back At ’13

The year gone by has been a fantastic year for me full of ups and downs. The year I must admit didn’t quite start off too well. Initially for some time it seemed like nothing was going my way. But determination, hard work and those challenges did make me stronger. I wanted to get back at the game. I wanted to make it happen.

The second part of the year I started playing well but kept missing wins by a whisker. And that feeling when you are nearly there but just missed important victories despite playing a fabulous game. Shall we say luck was an issue? What was it I wonder. But I guess I was determined that something had to click at some point. It was destined to be that way. After all these years of golf and toil, I deserved a break. I knew it. My game knew. My coach knew it. We all were sure. It was just a matter of time. Perhaps all this delay in rewards was a way to make me more determined.

The last quarter of 2013 had some good news. Santa chose to arrive early and reward me for my good work. Two back to back wins, was more than a great end to the year. One even was at the Golden Greens with a winning score of 7 under and the other one was at Jaypee Greens. The latter was the 13th leg of the Women’s Pro Tour, an event worth 5,00,000. This one also helped me push myself higher on the rankings chart.

It really boosted my moral and that made me even more excited about the Hero Women’s Indian Open 2013, the co-sanctioned tournament with the Ladies European Tour. Although I wasn’t satisfied with my performance, I can’t deny this tournament brings us all exposure and spotlight. The 2013 season had one highpoint, something that made me very happy, and this was receiving the The Best Upcoming Golfer Award of the Year at the Take Solutions INDIA GOLF AWARDS powered by www.golfingindian.com. This meant a lot.

Looking forward to a much better 2014.
