Condolences – Indian golfer, Siddharth Naik dies at 42

Indian Golfer and Limca Book of National Records holder Siddharth Naik passed away after fighting with cancer for two years.


Aug 1, 2017: Siddharth Naik – 42, holder of 3 Limca Book of National Records and a World Record as an amateur golfer is no more. Initially a Basketball player representing Ahmedabad and the state of Gujarat he was introduced to golf in 2006. He is survived by his wife Anuya, son Veer and his father Ashvin.

Detected with Cancer 2 years ago, Siddharth fought it like a true champion and created a new World Record in Golf in June 2016 while fighting the disease. He dedicated his last few years promoting the game especially amongst the young and budding Junior Golfers.

Siddharth started the ‘Golf in School’ programme with a number of schools in Ahmedabad, Baroda and Maharastra. Besides promoting Golf in schools, Siddharth was also closely associated with several golf clubs in Gujarat where he played a leading role in developing this game and making it accessible to a growing number of people.

Siddharth will always be remembered for working tirelessly for the growth and development of Golf.

Ten years may not be a very long time but the progress that Siddharth had made as a golfer within this short time and the role he played in propagating the game of Golf in Ahmedabad & surrounding region is indeed truly commendable.

Highlights of his key achievements:

? Founded TAEGA- The Ahmedabad Elite Golfers Association, a non-profit body which popularizes Golf in the Ahmedabad region.

? June 2014- Played golf from sunrise to sunset for 13.47 hours, that is, 182 holes of golf in stroke play format and entered into the LIMCA Book of Records. (this is a national record co owned by him & playing partner Brijesh Patel)

? April 2014, he co-founded the Caddie Golf League along with Brijesh Patel, another non-profit body which aims to encourage, appreciate and motivate the unsung heroes of Golf- the caddies, who lead lives full of hardships, yet cheerfully walk miles with each golfer, carrying his or her heavy kit.

? January 2015 Siddharth became first and only golfer from Gujarat to acquire the title of an R & A & IGU certified Golf Rules Official/ Golf Referee. Since then he continued to officiate in many tournaments with PGTI (Professional Golf Tour of India) & IGU (Indian Golf Union)

? June 2015- Played golf on 10 different Golf Courses in Ahmedabad in less than 12 hours. This is also a Limca Book Record (this is a national record co owned by him & his playing partner Brijesh Patel)

? April 2016 – He had been appointed as Director & Contributing Editor for Golf Plus Monthly by SLW Media. Golf Plus Monthly is the leading monthly golf magazine of India with a circulation of more than 50 thousand copies.

? May 2016 – He had been appointed as West Zone Manager by IGU (Indian Golf Union) to oversee & grow the game in the western region of India. IGU is the apex body of golf in the country and is responsible for the promotion and development of golf in India

? June 2016- Played 360 holes of golf in alternate shot format in a single day from sunrise to sunset for 13:44 hours, and entered into the Limca Book of Records as well as Official World Record (this is a national as well as world record co owned by him & his playing partner Brijesh Patel)
