August 04, 2015: A Reuters report suggesting Rory McIlroy could be scheduled to play a practice round at the Whistling Straits has the golfing world excited. The prospect of McIlroy returning from injury to defend the PGA Championship is still an uncertainty, but the probability of it happening has aroused interest across the board.

McIlroy tore an anterior ligament in his left ankle, playing some football with his friends in July. The adventure cost him participation at The Open in St. Andrews. As he continues rehabilitating the ankle, he announced too that he will not defend the WGC Bridgestone Invitational this week.

Some medical experts have suggested that McIlroy’s ankle could take up to three months to heal and be ready. So it remains to be seen, if the young Northern Irishman is willing to take the risks needed, in case he wants to participate next week.

While the Reuters report only quotes “reliable sources,” McIlroy is yet to confirm anything via social media, as is his wont. Reuters did attempt to reach Sean O’Flaherty, McIlroy’s Manager and people at the championship course, but failed to elicit any confirmation from either source.

If the report is indeed true, then the 26 year old seems intent on testing his legs with some golf at the course that is going to host the PGA Championship next week.
