Oct 15, 2013. Hanoi, Vietnam’s capital is known for its lakes, none more famous than the central Hoan Kiem Lake – around which it seems the essence of life in the city can be captured. Beyond the lake, there is quite a bit to absorb – the age old trade traditions of the Old Quarter, a superb water puppet show and fine French architecture. The variety of food & restaurants, the bia hois (kerbside draught beer joints) and galleries that showcase contemporary Vietnamese art also captivate. To party – an active albeit scattered nightlife awaits in bars, discos and karaoke joints !

Just a couple of hours away from Hanoi is the World Heritage Site, Halong Bay , a place like no other, with thousands of hillocks cropping out of the ocean – that calls for a day cruise if not an overnighter, with the added delight of buying your own seafood from the ocean and then having it custom cooked.

There are abundant high quality golf options, some of them set in absolutely dramatic landscape – one could be playing at a different top course everyday on a weeklong golf holiday, which may leave no time for other activities. So, better have time on hand!
