Augusta, Georgia, 11 April: Masters Sunday lived up to its tradition of producing one of the most exciting days in the sporting calendar. Hole in ones, quadruple bogeys and the first European Masters champion in 17 years.

While Danny Willett was busy winning the Masters, his brother Peter was busy winning Twitter.

Peter, or @P_J_Willett, was at home in England as his brother was coming from three shots back to win the first Major Championship of his career. The Willett family has been through a lot in the last week, with Danny and wife Nicole welcoming their first child just eight days before the Masters started.

Ten days into his life, Zachariah is the son of a Masters champion. His uncle Peter however, was the most famous man on Twitter for a few hours.

Throughout the final round PJ was live-tweeting his reactions and feelings from his living room and the comments were priceless.

Danny got off to a good start Sunday with a five pars and a birdie on the par three sixth. When another birdie dropped at the eighth, he was within one of the lead and Peter was beginning get a wee bit excited.

Boooooooom. Come on xxxx

Then came the turning point of the final round. Spieth made a quadruple bogey on the 12th hole as Willett birdied 14. Suddenly, the Englishman led the tournament by a shot.

Come on, Danny. You beaut genius. COOOOMMMEEE OOONNNNNN#TheMasters #bbcgolf

When Danny tapped in for birdie on the 14th hole, his lead doubled to two shots. His brothers excitement levels went off the charts.

Please. Please. Please. Please. Please.#bbcgolf

It was at this point that Peter realised his brother might actually win the Masters.

If the boy does what he should, I will be able to say ‘I’ve shared a bath with a Masters winners – brilliant#bbcgolf

Then came the 72nd hole. Danny split the fairway with his tee shot and faced 170 yards to the pin. Peter’s request was simple.

Just. Hit. The. Green… Please.#bbcgolf

Danny did just that, and found himself over a 15 foot putt knowing that two strokes would likely be enough to win him the green jacket.

He got no sympathy from his brother.

3 putt this & you might as well stay in America.#bbcgolf

Danny was clearly hearing his brother’s prayers and smartly two-putted to become just the third Masters champion to shoot a bogey-free round of 67 on Sunday.

As any loving brother would do in that situation, Peter offer some brotherly advice.

Green makes you look fat, refuse the jacket.#bbcgolf

Things weren’t over yet. A birdie for Spieth on the par five 15th hole meant two birdies in the last three holes would see him force a playoff.

As Spieth stood over a downhill birdie putt on the 16th hole, PJ issued a stern warning to the defending champion!

Spieth, you’ve won one before, wind your neck in.

— P J Willett (@P_J_Willett) 10 April 2016
Spieth’s putt slid by and a bogey on his 71st hole all but assured Willett of victory. It was time to start the celebrations.

Just downed in one. Work will understand. Behave yourself, Spieth.#bbcgolf pic.twitter.com/Dtcu0bzhVo

Moments later, it was official.

Well done, Dan. X

Basking in his Danny’s success, Peter took out his phone one more time as his brother, 3,000 miles away, put on the green jacket for the first time.

Speechless.

I once punched that kid in the head for hurting my pet rat.

Now look.#bbcgolf #TheMasters

Alas, history was made at Augusta with Danny Willett winning his first Major championship. History may not remember his brother Peter, but we will.

Comedy gold during one of the most nerve-wracking nights of his life. @P_J_Willett, we salute you. Well played sir!
