December 24, 2016: What is on your calendar for January? Free some space, if oddball meetings seem to have taken away too much of your time. David Leadbetter, one of the foremost names in the world of golf gurus, is all set to spend time at the Oxford Golf Resort in Pune. Leadbetter runs The Leadbetter Academy, teaching professional golfers the tricks of the trade.
Leadbetter was barely adequate as a professional golfer in Europe, but the fine insights he has gained in the course of his learning helped him shape a multi-million dollar teaching empire. The Englishman rose to prominence in the 1980s when he worked with Nick Faldo.
Leadbetter reconstructed the swing for Faldo, helping him reboot a flagging career. Faldo went on to win six major titles – three Masters and three Open Championships, turning both men into legends of the game.
Leadbetter has also written “The A Swing – The Alternative Approach to Great Golf” a book prescribing new ways to look at the game and the way it is played.
Oxford hosts Leadbetter
Oxford Golf Resort is one of the most spectacular golf properties in India. The club is a regular host on the WGAI and PGTI Tours conducting professional tournaments annually.
Oxford also have several other amateur and pro-am events conducted at the course. The 136 acre property is set amidst hills, providing a splendid stage for golf round the year.
The club is planning a day long event in January to facilitate sessions with Leadbetter during his visit to India. Considering Pune’s love for golf, there is no doubt that the club will need to prepare for a large gathering of enthusiasts from around the country.
Leadbetter’s chain of golf schools are permeating through Asia, as the academy expands rapidly into Asia. The trainer’s visit to India is also expected to result in some important announcements and the development of new partnerships in India.
