Sept 5,2013. Delhi Golf Club is in the heart of a storm once again. First it was the DGC coming under the RTI Act, now its a row over Pakistan. Times of India reports a golfing trip to Pakistan that was meant to build bridges has ironically caused a great divide within the Delhi Golf Club and may end up as an embarrassment for the premier institution.

The TOI report claims last October, 14 Delhi Golf Club members went to Lahore after an invitation from Together We Golf, an organization of Pakistani golfers, for a round of matches. During their six-day stay in Lahore, the DGC members signed an MoU that encouraged players in India and Pakistan to travel to the each other’s country for tournaments every six months.

The then DGC President who had partnered on this Manmohan Singh has since lost presidency of the club. According to club insiders who spoke to TOI, the new president, IVS Juneja, wasn’t informed about the trip nor was it approved by the committee. Now that it’s time for Pakistan golfers to come to India, DGC is refusing to host them because it does not recognize the trip led by Singh.
