Gaganjeet Bhullar receives Arjuna Award

The 2006 Asian Games silver medalist became the seventh golfer to receive the Arjuna since its introduction in 1961.

August 31, 2013. The President of India, Pranab Mukherjee presented Arjuna award to golfer Gaganjeet Bhullar at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Friday. The 2006 Asian Games silver medalist became the seventh golfer to receive the Arjuna since its introduction in 1961. Golfers, PG Sethi (1961), Ali Sher (1991), Jeev Milkha Singh (1999), Shiv Kapur (2002), Jyoti Randhawa (2004) and Arjun Atwal (2007, )are the others conferred with the award earlier.

 

The 25-year-old, rising golfer from Kapurthala in Punjab, was delighted to receive the coveted award from the government of India.

 

“It’s an incredible feeling to become part of India’s sporting history. At the end of the day you play for the country” Gaganjeet told golfingindian.com.

 

“Everyone wants to win tournaments outside the country but getting recognized by your country for the achievements is special. I want to dedicate this award to the young golfers as it will motivate them to work harder for their goals,” he added.

 

Bhullar won the Yeangder Tournament Players Championship on 17 September 2012.The following month he won the Venetian Macau Open.

 

Bhullar was born in Kapurthala, India. He was India’s number one amateur in 2004 and 2006 and was part of the Indian team that won the silver medal at the 2006 Asian Games. He finished in a tie for seventh in the individual competition. Bhullar turned professional in 2006.
