Golfing Legend Gary Player graced the very first INDIA GOLF AWARDS to flag off its jury meeting. Player called the awards a great idea to bring together amateurs and professional golfers on the same stage and recognise their contribution to the sport. “What needs to be told is that golf used to be an elite sport but it no longer is,” he said.

Gary Player pitched for better courses in India to a jury that included the Director General of the Indian Golf Union and insisted on using the popularity of Arjun Atwal and Jeev Milkha Singh to promote the game. “What you need are championship golf courses, public golf courses so that people can access them to play and enjoy the sport. The more the access the best for the game of golf,” asserted Gary.

The legend insisted that if the Indian government made a special effort like South Africa to build public infrastructure for the game he would be “willing to do it for a quarter of a fee.”

Calling the Take Solutions INDIA GOLF AWARDS a very special initiative the golf super star said he was glad to see such an initiative in a country that held tremendous promise for this sport. “I am very glad to be associated with golfingindian.com and Take Solutions for this special effort to reward and recognise excellence for both amateurs and professionals.
