January 08, 2016: India’s best golfers are swooping in on Chennai for a Pro Am event on Saturday to raise funds to assist the victims of the recent spate of floods in the city. It is a gesture of goodwill and grace from our top golfers, including Anirban Lahiri, Shiv Kapur, S Chikkarangappa and not to forget the Sri Lankan friend of Indian golf, Mithun Perera among others.

The Pro-Am scramble event will be held at the Madras Gymkhana Golf Club, Guindy on January 09, organised by the Madras Round Table 1.

“We at MRT 1 are most excited to be playing host to the Pro Am Golf tournament. MRT 1 has worked continuously to rehabilitate schools over the last few years. We are passionate about the cause and most excited that we can host the Pro AM tournament,” said Puneet Gupta of MRT1. “This time around, MRT1 is extending a helping hand specifically targeting schools of underprivileged children affected due to the rains.”

“It gives me great satisfaction to realise that the proceeds of the tournament will benefit the rehabilitation of schools affected by the Chennai Floods,” said Lahiri. “This is the second edition of the tournament, thanks to Madras Round Table-1 for using Golf for a cause. Looking forward to playing in the pro am in Chennai on January 9th.”

The tournament will offer an opportunity for the amateurs not just for a pleasant day of Golf in a 4 ball advance scramble Pro-Am Championship, but also mix it up with some of the top professionals in India. The event will be played in a Scramble format with 1 professional player and 3 amateur players in a team competing against similar such teams for the championship.

Also, in order to keep it interesting, apart from the main scramble competition there will also be several “In-Round” prizes for the Amateur players.

The Madras Gymkhana Golf course is a links style 18 hole, 6690 yard, Par 72 course. Located in the back drop of the horse race track at Guindy, the course is known for its tricky roughs and an unpredictable factor in the changing wind patterns.

An auction will also be hosted after the event at the Park Hyatt where an auction of items like Presidents Cup memorabilia and Ryder Cup Hospitality passes will help generate resources for the Chennai Flood Relief program.
