Gursimar Badwal leads rd 1 of Second leg

06 June 2019: On a good day for aggressive golf, Clover Greens was a willing companion to the women willing to take it on with a degree of precision and control. No one did that better than Gursimar Badwal, who went four strokes clear at the top with a sensational 66 in the second round of the seventh leg on the WGAI’s Hero Women’s Professional Golf Tour. There were as many as seven scores under par, including one from amateur Asmitha Sathish, who shot 70. Gaurika Bishnoi was lying second after posting a 70, with Amandeep Drall trailing her by a stroke in third place.

Tvesa Malik and Millie Saroha, scoring 70 and 71 respectively, were tied in fourth at an even 144. Pranavi Urs, still an amateur, is rated highly in golfing circles and she underlined her potential with a brilliant 69 on Thursday. She is tied in sixth with Astha Madan and Ananya Datar at one-over 145.

Another amateur, Asmitha Sathish shot two-under in the second round to move into ninth place. Behind her are Ridhima Dilawari, Khushi Khanijau, and Neha Tripathi. The first two scored 74 while Neha had to content herself with a 75.

The day clearly belonged to Gursimar Badwal. She was on fire straight off the top, scoring back to back birdies at the second and third holes. She added two more at the 5th and 7th to make the turn in 33 strokes.

Gursimar wasn’t slowing down after the bend. She stormed ahead of the field making four birdies in five holes from the tenth, tempered only by a bogey at the 11th. Another bogey came at the 16th as she matched her front nine effort of 33 to record a 66.

There were 61 birdies made in the second round as the course played easier than on Wednesday, with the pin positions and the weather helping players settle in a nice rhythm.

A lone bogey at the ninth meant that Bishnoi marched through 11 holes without too much action. But she picked up the pace, making four birdies in the next seven holes to post a 70, moving to three-under 141.

Amandeep matched her first-round score of 71 with three birdies and two bogeys, ending the day at 142.
