Tyrrell Hatton wins golfer of the month for October 2020

Tyrrell Hatton has been voted the European Tour’s Golfer of the Month.

Tyrrell Hatton won the October award with 65% of the vote after claiming the BMW PGA Championship, his third Rolex Series title. Opening with the 66 on the West Course at Wentworth Golf Club, Hatton lead after three of the four rounds with a convincing display at one of the most prestigious events on the schedule. His victory, which was his fifth on the European Tour, vaulted him up to 8th in the Race to Dubai.

Aaron Rai comes in second after winning his first Rolex Series title at the Aberdeen Standard Investments Scottish Open, which he achieved just a week after finishing as the runner-up at the Dubai Duty-Free Irish Open. A final round 64 helped Rai into a playoff with fellow Englishman Tommy Fleetwood, which he won with a par four on the first playoff hole.

Third place went to Ross McGowan following his first win in 11 years at the Italian Open. McGowan has spent the past decade fighting injuries and loss of form but battled over the final 18 holes to secure a one-stroke victory – and his return to the winner’s circle – thanks to a long birdie putt on the 72nd hole.

Rounding off the voting was Adrian Otaegui, who won his first European Tour stroke play event at the Scottish Championship presented by AXA. This added to the two titles Otaegui won in match play formats.
