Hero Women’s Indian Open serves to showcase Indian women golfers

Aditi Ashok will carry Indian hopes on her young shoulders, as Indian women seek to shine at the DLF Golf and Country Club.

Nov 9, 2016: The tenth edition of the Women’s Indian Open, sponsored by Hero MotoCorp could turn out be a watershed event for women’s golf in India. There are seventeen Indian golfers in the field this week, including four amateurs. And the contingent, led by a young Aditi Ashok is confident of a strong showing in the tournament. The Hero Order of Merit leader Amandeep Drall and Vani Kapoor lead an enthusiastic bunch of golfers, eager to impress on their home turf.

Aditi Ashok has earned four consecutive top 10 finishes on the Ladies European Tour, helping turn the focus squarely towards an ever improving class of women golfers in India.

Even though her pace was stemmed on a difficult Abu Dhabi course in the FBM Ladies Open, Aditi Ashok finished the event with a fighting 69 to showcase her grit and determination.

Neha Tripathi is an experienced campaigner, making her 15th start on the LET. She is lying third on the order of merit with two wins this season. But Neha Tripathi will be aching to do well this week to try and score a maiden top ten finish on the LET.

Vani Kapoor and Amandeep Drall won ten of the fifteen WGAI events this season, underlining their grip on the Hero Women’s Professional Golf Tour.

Siddhi Kapoor impressed everyone by notching up her maiden professional victory in her rookie season on the WGAI tour. Much will be expected of her too in this week.

The four amateurs in the field – Sifat Sagoo, Tvesa Malik, Diksha Dagar and Seher Atwal will be wiser for their experience this week in this LET event.

A couple of strong finishes could herald a new wave of optimism among the fledgling ranks of golfers on the WGAI HWPGT, paving the way for the further development of the game in India.
